Yanmar has decades of experience in manufacturing excavators and is famous for inventing the zero tail swing mini excavator in 1993. The range of Yanmar excavators is simply divided into three families according to their weight, with 0 to 2 tonne excavators; 2 to 5 tonne excavators and 5 to 10 tonne excavators all on offer.
There are six machines in the 0 to 2 tonne excavator category, which starts off with the SV05-B model. This is not only the smallest of the Yanmar excavators: according to the company it is also the most compact excavator you can buy. That means it can work in areas that other excavators simply cannot reach and it is designed to be able to be operated by inexperienced users. It can also be transported to the job on a small trailer. Its size means that it can squeeze through narrow doorways and access internal areas but it is no slouch in power terms and has a digging force of 6.77 kN. There is also a comfortable seat for the operator and ROPS protection.

At the top end of the 0 to 2 tonne category you will find the SV18 Yanmar excavator. This is still compact and easy to transport but offers more power and an enclosed cab. A digging force of 15.2 kN can get the job done and the hydraulic system is load sensing for more accurate and precise movement. The SV18 has the new TNV engine and an extended undercarriage for greater stability.
The 2 to 5 tonne Yanmar excavator range also has six models, with the SV26 being typical of the range. This machine offers extremely low fuel consumption of around 4 litres per hour in normal operation and this can be reduced even further by installing a clever speed reducing system, which automatically slows the engine when not in use and then speeds it up again when needed. The digging force is 24 kN and the digging depth is up to 2805mm. The engine delivers 24hp and a near perfect combination of excavation force, productivity and economy.
