Scissor Lift For Sale

Scissor lifts are a type of aerial platform which can provide access to high places that operators may need to reach quickly and efficiently.

Unlike boom lift platforms, scissor lifts are restricted to movement along the vertical axis, which does mean that they do not have the ability to reach both up and out along a horizontal plane.

Scissor lifts are more stable and streamlined in their operations, however, with large enough baskets to accommodate multiple operators and a decent amount of equipment to help them complete whatever tasks they face.

The technical term for the scissor mechanism which is used to achieve elevation in this type of machine is a pantograph, with the advantage being that once hydraulic or pneumatic force has been applied to allow the basket to rise, it may be lowered back to its original height without necessarily requiring any power.

Scissor lifts fall into two main categories: those intended for indoor use and those capable of working outdoors in the kinds of challenging conditions that might be faced.

You will also need to think about the width of the lift you choose, as standard models are available alongside narrow-gauge alternatives which are better able to squeeze through tight gaps and be deployed in positions where manoeuvres might otherwise be difficult to execute.

Indoor scissor lifts may be powered by built-in batteries, with the electric motor producing minimal noise so as to prevent too much disruption.

Outdoor models will be a bit louder thanks to their diesel engines, but they may also offer advanced off-road capabilities, including bigger tyres and even 4x4 functionality for added traction away from the tarmac.

Some manufacturers have produced tracked scissor lifts which provide stability and grip in slippery, loose conditions, so you may be able to find a second-hand example that suits any potential application.

The working height of a scissor lift can vary, with smaller models offering anything up to 8 metres of elevation, while bigger units can top out at around 18.5 metres, or 59 feet.

Basket capacity is another thing to bear in mind when selecting a suitable model, since bigger baskets will allow for heavier equipment and more people to use the unit safely at the same time.

But as you increase this capacity, you also take on board the increased size and weight of the scissor lift itself, which means you may need to find a balance between the two if the area it is intended to be used in poses its own problems.

The largest scissor lifts may come with their own integrated outriggers to further cement them in a suitably planted position during use.

Modern models offer a decent degree of automation in the elevation process, meaning minute adjustments can be made to enhance safety further.

Integrated alarms to warn of tilting or tipping can be available on some models, while alerts that make others aware of when the basket is ascending and descending may also be a preference to seek.

Manufacturers such as Skyjack, Genie and Manitou are all known for their scissor lifts, meaning you can pick an access platform of this type from a brand you trust.
