The introduction of hand-arm vibration (HAV) regulations has seen a shift towards machine mounted rather hand held tools but the likes of Wacker Neuson, Bomag and MBW are fighting back with designs that transmit very little vibration through to the user. Health and safety considerations have also prompted the likes of Ammann, Bomag and Multiquip (among others) to introduce remote control vibrating plates and rollers that can compact trenches without putting workers at risk of being injured if the trench collapses.
In addition to the specialist such as Ammann, Bomag, Dynapac, Hamm and Wacker Neuson, many of the bigger names such as Caterpillar, Volvo, Terex and JCB produce a range of compaction equipment. This is another area where Chinese manufacturers are starting to make an impact with the likes of LiuGong and Sany now selling their equipment in overseas markets.
Even the bigger ride-on equipment has been affected by both health and safety legislation (this time whole-body vibration) and emissions restrictions prompting a spate of new machines with cleaner engines and featuring vibration-isolated cabs and operator seats.
