Bobcat may be known for its skid steer loaders but it has been making excavators now for more than 25 years. With 16 models in the range, the family of Bobcat excavators is comprehensive and there is now a Bobcat excavator for most requirements.

Already a leader in the skid steer market, the introduction a quarter of a century ago of the Bobcat excavator range transformed Bobcat from being a niche supplier into arguably the world's leader in the supply of compact construction equipment. Bobcat excavators didn't just achieve this, however: they were also responsible for transforming the sector with a number of innovations.

The first Bobcat X120 excavator, for example, was able to combine powerful performance with a low operating weight to make it a great choice for rapid and easy trailer transport. It was followed by the X25 Bobcat excavator, which was the first to offer joystick controls. Moving into the 1990s, Bobcat redesigned the cab of their Bobcat excavator family, which upped the bar and set new standards in comfort for the operator. The company also launched a pair of five tonne compact excavators.

Used Bobcat Mini Digger

It was at this time that Bobcat also came up with a new feature and launched compact excavators with an optional second speed. This gave operators the opportunity to move around a site more quickly. They also introduced a new single piece tailgate, which meant that service access was easier, and they launched the expandable undercarriage.

Moving forward to 2005, Bobcat introduced the 319 model, which had an innovative design featuring a cylinder over the boom. The Bobcat 400 Series excavator was next, which introduced zero tail swing and fast track to the range.

More recently, the company launched the E26 model. This is the result of 25 years of experience and the relentless pursuit of excellence in compact tracked excavator design. It is the latest model in the Bobcat E-Series excavator range, and encompasses everything that the firm has learned in terms of ease of use, ergonomics, operator comfort and industry applications. The Bobcat E-Series excavators also remain true to the company's philosophy of providing the utmost power and productivity in a versatile and compact package.

The Bobcat E08 compact excavator is the smallest machine in the range. It has a foldable TOPS protection system and is designed to fit through a standard doorway. It also features minimal tail swing, which makes it an even more impressive performer in small, tight spaces. With its innovative expandable undercarriage, it also manages to be extremely stable, with one of the widest stances in the sector when the undercarriage is extended. The top of the range Bobcat excavator is the E85. Still classed as a compact excavator, this tracked machine has a roomy cab form which the operator enjoys excellent visibility. It has an operating weight of 8.5 tonnes and has been designed to offer a reduced tail swing to make it more adaptable for work in confined spaces. It also features enhanced digging forces and the smoothest hydraulic system for the utmost accuracy in operations.
